Graffiti has been around since the BC century in Athens and was discovered by the American School of Classical studies in Athens, with around 850 quantities being catalogued by Mabel Lang in 1976. These kind of graffiti included kalos inscription, abecedaria, messages, pictures and even swear words.
However, fast forward to today and Athens is a city that has unique beauty, with half of it being covered in graffiti. While some hate it, others love it as it is one of the unique characteristics that this capital has. It brings color and an abstract style to the city, making it rough around the edges but also refreshing to see from other cities that don’t even have a scratch on their buildings.
Graffiti is a form of street art that simply needs to be admired and can break away all barriers. It can convey a powerful message, make people feel emotions and even be intrigued by the most eccentric street art out there. It is as if graffiti is a tradition that has carried on from Ancient Greece and has only progressed to something beautiful in modern Greece.
