When you are counting your money till payday, you start to get more creative in the kitchen.
This pasta sauce is filled with protein and vitamins that contribute to good bone health.
It’s cheap and simple to make for any day of the week.
1 tsp sugar
1 vegetable cube
1 tinned tomatoes
1 canned sardines in tomato sauce
1 tbsp dried basil
A pinch of black pepper
1 tbsp olive oil
200g dried spaghetti or any other pasta
Optional topping: 2 tbsp cottage cheese
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes
Step. 1: Heat the pasta according to the instructions on the packet. Boil the pasta until it is Al dente.
Step. 2: In a large pan add the olive oil, canned sardines, tinned tomatoes, vegetable stock, pepper and basil. Add 1/4 water to the pan too. Let it all simmer on a medium-high heat.
Step. 3: Whilst the sauce is simmering, add the sugar and stir it in well. Let it simmer for 15 minutes until the sauce has thickened. Once it is ready, take it off the heat.
Tip: You can add the cottage cheese on top and mix it with the pasta and sauce. This gives you extra protein and enhances the flavour even more.
