5-6 rashers of streaky bacon

250g Macaroni

1/3 cup of flour

40g butter

600ml milk

250g grated cheese

Cooking time: 30 minutes

Step one: Put water in a saucepan and add salt. Boil the water and cook the macaroni for 9-13 minutes. Meanwhile, cut the streaky bacon into small pieces and cook with olive oil in a small frying pan. Once the bacon is cooked, get rid of the oil and place the bacon on a plate.

Step two: Once the macaroni is cooked, drain the macaroni and leave it to the side. Use a saucepan to melt the butter and then add the flour and stir together until it’s mixed into a roux form.

Step three: When stirring the flour and butter, slowly whisk in the milk and continue to whisk and cook until it has formed into a thick sauce. This can take up to 10-15 minutes. Turn the grill on, to hot.

Step four: Once the thick sauce is formed, remove it from the hob and add in half of your grated cheese and all of the bacon into the sauce. Stir well, until the cheese is melted into the sauce.

Step five: Add the macaroni into the sauce and stir well. Make sure the sauce covers the macaroni. Place the macaroni and sauce into an ovenproof dish. Sprinkle grated cheese on top.

Step six: Place the ovenproof dish under the grill and let it cook until it the cheese on top has melted and turned into a golden brown. Serve immediately.
